Baseball Splits Doubleheader, Drops Series At No. 11 Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – Kasen McCawley turned in his second-straight complete-game win to lead UNC Pembroke to a 4-1 win in the first game of the doubleheader, but the Braves couldn't hold off No. 11 Francis Marion in the rubber match as the Patriots clinched the series with an 8-4 win Saturday afternoon at Sparrow Stadium.

McCawley moved to 9-1 on the season after going all seven innings and allowing just one run with six strikeouts. JD Scarbrough's two-run double in the second inning would be enough for McCawley to nail down the win.

Scarbrough finished the game 2-2 with a walk, double, and two RBI, while Landon Lucas turned in a 3-4 line with a solo homer.

The Braves (25-11, 16-8 CC) fell to 51-79-1 all-time against the Patriots (30-8, 19-5 CC).

The Black & Gold will be back in action Tuesday, April 7 as they make the short trip to take on Wingate. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Ron Christopher Stadium.

TOP 2 The Braves struck first as JD Scarbrough drove in two with a double, and came home on a dirtball read coupled with a Francis Marion error to make it 3-0.
TOP 7 Landon Lucas tacked on an insurance run with a two-out solo homer to make it 4-1.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 FMU jumped out to an early lead on a Riley Orr RBI double.
TOP 2 The Braves answered as Lucas doubled and later scored on Branton Jernigan's RBI ground out. Boone Herman followed with a triple before Morgan Padgett brought Herman home with an RBI groundout to give UNCP a 2-1 lead.
BOT 3 Francis Marion tied the score at 3-3 on a wild pitch, and took the lead for good on Jimmy Koza's two-run single.
