Wrestling Sends Five To NWCA Scholar All-America Honors

April 6, 2026

MANHEIM, Pa. The UNC Pembroke wrestling team continued a long-standing tradition for itself when five of its student-athletes were lauded with scholar All-America accolades by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).

It is the 16th-straight year that the Black & Gold has been represented on the distinguished squad, and the 13th time that the program has sent multiple student-athletes to the listing. The announcement also marks the 10th-consecutive year the Braves have had multiple representatives earn the honor.

Jose Zambrano Canuto earned the honor for the second-consecutive year, while Gus Elliott, Nick Williams, Jackson Buck, and Cristian Hercules-Pleitez each brought home the honor for the first time.

In order for a student-athlete to be selected to the Division II Scholar All-American Team, he must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.25 for those who qualified for the 2026 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships, or 3.00 for those who reached All-American status at the championships.
