Baseball Defeats King, Stays Alive At Conference Carolinas Championship

GASTONIA – No. 5 seed UNC Pembroke jumped out to a quick lead and never trailed on the way to an 11-6 win over No. 9 seed King in an elimination game Friday at CaroMont Health Park.

Tyler Steele turned in a perfect 5-5 day at the plate with an RBI, marking the first player to record five hits in a game since Blake Hinson did it almost exactly a year ago on May 2, 2025 against Francis Marion. Jackson Crute doubled twice and drove in three runs, while Mason Mozeley tallied a pair of hits and three RBI, as well.

Jacob Smith battled through six innings to pick up the win, while Conner Elliott closed out the game with scoreless innings to nail down the save.

The Braves (33-17) improved to 15-2 in the all-time series against the Tornado (14-38).

The Braves will be back in action Saturday as they look to stave off elimination once more against the loser of Friday night's Francis Marion-Belmont Abbey matchup. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. at Sims Legion Park.
