PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke Director Of Cross Country/Track & Field Peter Ormsby has announced the addition of Javon Graham as assistant coach for the Braves.
A former two-time NCAA All-American for the Braves, Graham returns to Pembroke after spending three years as the assistant coach at Roanoke College where he helped guide runners to 14 NCAA Championship appearances and seven NCAA All-American honors, while also creating weight room programs, and managing practice plans, meet-day operations, travel, and team bonding activities. In his time at Roanoke, Graham coached 61 All-Conference honorees, 47 All-Region selections, and 18 conference champions.
"I'm excited to have Coach Graham re-join BraveNation as our new sprints/hurdles coach," said Ormsby. "He has proven that he can both recruit and develop high-level national athletes during his tenure at Roanoke College. And I feel that we both have a shared vision of success for the track programs going forward."
Graham brought home indoor track & field All-American honors in 2018 after finishing 11th in the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships and followed it up with an All-American honor in outdoor track & field after finishing 11th in the 110-meter hurdles. A two-time Peach Belt Conference champion, Graham was also a six-time USTFCCCA All-Region selection for the Black & Gold.
"Coming back to UNC Pembroke is a special opportunity for me," said Graham. "I know what this university and program can mean to a student-athlete because I lived it myself. I'm excited to bring that perspective, along with my coaching experience, and help our student-athletes compete at a high level and become the best versions of themselves."
Graham graduated with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from UNC Pembroke and later obtained a master's degree in sport management from Wingate.
