Volleyball Falls At Francis Marion In Four Sets

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion hit .357 from the net during the second set to help defeat the UNC Pembroke volleyball team 3-1 on Tuesday evening inside the Smith University Center.  

The setback for the Braves snapped an eight-game win streak and have now lost three out of the last four contests against Francis Marion when playing in Florence. UNCP was limited to hitting just .141 for the match on Tuesday. 

Abby Peduzzi became the program's all-time career kills leader during Tuesday's match with 1,227 kills so far in her career.

SET 1 I 25-23 Francis Marion took a 12-8 lead after winning seven consecutive points, but UNC Pembroke would rattle off a series of points to take a 19-18 lead with a kill from Deorri Gaines. The Braves stayed in control winning six of the final 11 points of the set. 
    - FMU out-hit UNCP .200 to .186 in the set.
    - Ava Fadool and Danika Kunkle both finished the opening set with four kills. 
SET 2 I 11-25 FMU established a commanding 22-10 lead after a UNCP attack error, and would close out the set winning three of the final four points. 
    - FMU out-hit UNCP .357 to .000 in the set
    - Ava Fadool added five kills during the set. 
SET 3 I 24-26 UNC Pembroke won five points in a row to take a 19-17 lead late in the set, but Francis Marion flipped the script and won seven of the final eight points of the set to take a two set lead. 
    - FMU out-hit UNCP .200 to .127in the set. 
    - Abby Peduzzi had four kills during the set. 
    - Danika Kunkle and Savannah Whaley each had one service ace. 
SET 4 I 26-28 Francis Marion won seven consecutive points to lead 21-15, but UNC Pembroke clawed back and would level the score at 24 with blocks from Deorri Gaines and Tyler Patterson. However, FMU answered winning four of the next six points to conclude the match.
    - UNCP out-hit FMU .211 to .197 in the set.
    -  Danika Kunkle and Abby Peduzzi both had three kills. 
    - Deorri Gaines had one solo block and one block assist.
