AS A SOPHOMORE AT UNC CHARLOTTE (2013): Played in four games, including the 49ers first-ever game against Campbell at home and the season finale at Morehead State ... Saw action in the 49ers first three games - Campbell, Chowan and North Carolina Central ... Attempted three passes without a completion … Had one run for a two-yard loss.

AS A REDSHIRT FRESHMAN (2012): Did not see game action.

AS A FRESHMAN (2011): Redshirted … Did not see game action.

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Mooresville High School for coach Hal Capps … Helped lead Blue Devils to an 8-4 record and a state playoff appearance as a prep senior … Earned all-conference and offensive player of the year laurels after throwing for 1,717 yards and 14 touchdowns … Senior performance was an encore from a junior year that watched him throw for 1,519 yards and 14 touchdowns, as well as run for 231 yards and six more scores, in leading Mooresville back from an 0-11 season to an 8-4 record and a playoff appearance … Also lettered in basketball and golf for the Blue Devils … Earned all-county and all-conference honors in both sports.

PERSONAL: The son of Carol and Thomas O’Brien … Graduated in the top half of his 400-member senior class at Mooresville High School … A business major at UNCP.
