AS A SOPHOMORE (2013): Played in all 11 games for UNCP … Accounted for 566 all-purpose yards … Ranked 14th nationally with a 27.9 yard average on 18 kickoff returns (502 return yards) … Rushed for 21 yards on five carries … Caught five passes for 47 yards (9.4 yards/catch) … Also tallied six tackles (five solo) … Recorded a season-long 69-yard kickoff return in the first quarter against Winston-Salem State that help set up UNCP’s first offensive points (field goal) of the game … Also rushed for three yards against the Rams … Established season-bests for receptions (four) and receiving yards (26) at Fayetteville State, while also returning two kicks for 58 yards … Returned three kicks for 96 yards at Charlotte, including a 52-yard return in the first quarter that set the stage for UNCP’s go-ahead touchdown … Returned two kicks for 49 yards against Tusculum, while also hauling in a season-long 21-yard reception … Registered a season-best five returns for a season-high 121 yards (24.2 yards/return) in the second round NCAA Playoff game against North Alabama … Also recorded a 10-yard rush against the Lions.

BEFORE UNCP: Played one season (2010) at Fullerton (Calif.) College … Earned all-American honors as a freshman after registering 691 all-purpose yards and one touchdown … Led nation (NJCAA) with 643 kickoff return yards (19 returns; 33.8 yards/return) … Also turned in 44 receiving yards (three receptions) and four rushing yards (three attempts).

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Everglades High School for coach Mike Palmeri … Earned all-star honors as a prep senior after leading the Gators to a 7-4 record and a state playoff appearance … Helped Everglades to a 12-1 record as a junior … Also lettered in track & field for the Gators.

PERSONAL: The son of Marlene and George Whigham … Has two brothers, Nicco and Mico, and two sisters, Demetsia and Latrisha … An exercise & sports science major at UNCP.
