2009 (SOPHOMORE): Redshirted. Did not see varsity action.

2008 (FRESHMAN): Played in all 10 games as the kickoff specialist for UNCP … Averaged 52.8 yards per kick on 59 attempts … Tallied a pair of touchbacks, with opponents starting, on average, at their own 33-yard line … Also booked a solo tackle on a special teams play against Jacksonville.

HIGH SCHOOL: A standout quarterback and punter for Monroe High School and coach Johnny Sowell … Ranked as the state’s top punter in terms of average yards per kick and county’s top passing quarterback until suffering season-ending ankle injury … Was instrumental early on in helping the Redhawks to an 8-4 record and a spot in the state playoffs … Accumulated more than 1,000 passing yards as a junior, taking home coach’s award laurels at season’s end … Also earned most valuable player honors in tennis for the Redhawks, earned most improved laurels on the baseball field and took home rookie of the year honors as a member of the basketball team.

PERSONAL: The son of Pam and Jody Sanders was born on Aug. 31, 1990 … Has an older brother, Justin, who is a senior quarterback at Lenoir-Rhyne … Graduated in the top 22 percent of his 183-member senior class at Monroe High School while maintaining a 3.45 cumulative grade point average … Enrolled in pre-major studies at UNCP.
