HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Fuquay-Varina High School for first-year coach Jeb Hall … Earned all-conference laurels as a prep senior after tallying 71 tackles, including 13-1/2 tackles for loss and five sacks in leading the Bengals to a playoff appearance … Also turned in eight quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles and a pair of fumble recoveries, as well as a tackle for a safety … A two-year starter on the defensive line … Collected six sacks as a junior … Captained his unit as a senior.

PERSONAL: The son of Mary and Tim Phillips … Maintained a 3.0 cumulative grade point average at Fuquay-Varina High School … A psychology major at UNCP.
