As A Freshman (2009)
As a first year runner with the Black and Gold opened up the season with a 28:28.04 showing in the UNCP Invitational 5K, a time that earned him fourth place among the Braves and 11th overall … Posted a personal best at the UNCW/Adidas Seahawk Invitational with a 5K 16:19.42 placing fourth with UNCP and 22nd overall … Brought home a 16th place finish from the ECU Pirates Invitational with a 27:56 8K on Sept. 19 and a 27:20 8K, his personal best, at the Great American Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 2 where he placed third within the Braves and 73rd overall.

Lettered under coach David Castell at Knightdale High School … Recognized as an all-conference and all-academic member in cross country during his senior year.

Son of Jaqueline an Leo Merritt … Has one sister, Tasha and one niece, Morgan … Also played football at East Wake High School before transferring to Knightdale … Undecided on a major at UNCP.
