Box Score WILMINGTON – Junior Jasmine Hairston led the UNCP women's basketball team with 13 rebounds despite suffering a sluggish start and falling 55-26 to Division I UNC Wilmington on Sunday afternoon in exhibition play in the Trask Coliseum.
Hairston registered a new career-high in rebounds, while posting two points and two steals. Junior Courtney Bolton collected a team-high seven points and two steals as freshman Jazmine Kemp drained six points and five rebounds.
UNCW's Karneshia Garrett put the Lady Seahawks on the board first with a jumper until junior Anya Knower tied the game on two made foul shots with less than four minutes elapsed in the first half. Newcomer Taylor Gallentine gave the Lady Braves the first lead of the game on a jumper until the Lady Seahawks took the lead less than two minutes later at the 14:09 mark.
UNCW controlled the lead at halftime with a 20-12 lead as well as a 31.0 percent field goal shooting in comparison to UNCP's 12.0 percent. The Lady Braves finished the game shooting 14.9 percent (7-of-47) from the field and 44.0 percent (11-25) from the free-throw line.
Garrett led the Lady Seahawks with 15 points, four steals, three blocks and a shared team-high nine points, while Alisha Andrews chipped in 10 points and seven assists.
The Lady Braves will open up their 2011 regular season on November 15 when the Black and Gold travels to region rival Coker to battle the Cobras in the Timberlake-Lawton Gym at 5:30 p.m.
