PEMBROKE – After keying a successful week on the softball diamond that included an upset victory of a nationally ranked team, senior Natalie Klemann has been named this week's UNCP Athlete of the Week, athletics department officials announced Tuesday.

Klemann, an Apex native, recorded a 3-1 record and a 1.50 ERA in 28 innings of work as the Lady Braves rolled to a 4-3 record that included a 4-1 mark at the Mid-South Classic in Spartanburg, S.C. In four complete games, she struck out 12 batters and walked just three, while limiting opponents to just a .233 batting clip. Klemann also picked up her first shutout of the season as well.

Klemann's allowed just two hits and one earned run in eight innings of work on Wednesday, but suffered her only blemish of the week in a home loss to No. 24 Wingate. She would follow that performance up with three-straight wins at the Mid-South Classic, yielding just three hits in a 1-0 blanking of Mount Olive, and then striking out five over six strong innings from the circle in an abbreviated 14-3 rout of Wingate.

Klemann would close out her week with an effective outing against Bellarmine that saw her strike out three and scatter eight hits in a 4-2 victory over the Knights.

A four-year starter for the Black & Gold, Klemann has registered a 26-30 record and a 2.78 ERA in 101 career appearances in Pembroke. She has struck out 240 batters in 418-2/3 innings of work, while holding opponents to a .259 batting average.
