Hanratty Leads Men's Soccer To 3-2 Victory Over Barton

WILSON – Freshman Josh Hanratty drilled in the golden goal at the 7:04 mark in overtime to deliver the UNC Pembroke men's soccer team a 3-2 overtime victory over the Barton Bulldogs on Wednesday evening in regional play at the Barton Soccer Field.

Hanratty's header in the 98th minute was his first goal of the season and gave UNCP (5-5-2) the victory which snapped a four-game winless streak this season. Fellow freshman Jordan Walshaw sent the set piece to the left wing of the box for the header by Hanratty and extend UNCP's winning streak in the series with Barton (1-11-1) out to 17-games.

In the 77th minutes, newcomer Tyler Santee scored the second goal of the evening for the Black and Gold on a free kick sent by senior Josh Phelps into the box to even up the contest. The score was Santee's first goal of the season, which eliminated the lead Barton held for more than 37 minutes. The Bulldogs took the lead headed into the half, 2-1, following Barton's score in the 40th minute as Tolly Beatson connected with Jovan Gracia, who was able to knock in a header off the free kick and find the back of the net.

Tyler Dew opened up the scoring campaign for Barton in the opening minute of the contest after Beatson amassed the assist from a free kick into the box, but the Braves knotted up the score at the 6:28 mark when Walshaw sent his free kick into the left side of the net on a long shot.

The Braves were out-shot by Barton, 11-12, with both teams logging seven shots on goal. Walshaw took a team-best five shots, including two shots on goal, while Phelps and Santee added a pair of shots for the UNCP offense. Kenneth Perkinson recorded 97:04 minutes of action and turned in five saves for the Black and Gold.

Four Bulldogs led the way for Barton with two shots, while four others each added one shot for Barton's losing effort. Between the posts for the Bulldogs, Jens Madsen Hordvik completed 97:04 minutes, and despite giving up three goals, collected four saves.

The Braves will close out their four-game road trip on Saturday when the Black and Gold face Peach Belt Conference leader Young Harris (10-3-0, 5-1-0 PBC) in a 3:30 contest at YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field in Young Harris, Ga.
