PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke women's soccer team took the lead for good on Stacey Scott's strike in the 20th minute, and then added a trio of insurance goals in the second half as the Braves put the kibosh on a three-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory over Mount Olive on Wednesday at Varsity Grounds.
The triumph successfully closed the lid on the non-conference portion of the 2015 schedule for the Braves (6-7-0) who improved to 9-1-1 all-time in the series with the Trojans. The setback snapped a six-game unbeaten streak for Mount Olive (7-4-2) who had not tasted defeat since a 3-0 loss at Belmont Abbey on September 19.
Armani Boswell punched in her third and fourth goals of the season to pace the Black & Gold, while Scott registered her first game-winner of the season, while also adding a pair of assists. Amber Watkins tallied a goal and an assist for the Braves as well. Janae Aiken stopped four shots on goal en route to her second clean sheet of the campaign.
After trading shots through much of the first 19 minutes of play, Scott finished off a quality service from Watkins with a one-timer just feet from the touch line to get UNCP off the mark. Boswell and Watkins netted goals just 40 seconds apart late in the second half, before Boswell finished off her day with another score in the 81st minute.
The Braves will step back into Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday when they head to northwest Georgia to battle Young Harris (4-8-0, 2-6-0 PBC). Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
