Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 10 Men’s Basketball Scoots Past All-Army In Double Overtime

PEMBROKE – Quamain Rose and Brandon Watts drilled 3-pointers on consecutive trips down the court in double overtime to give the 10th-ranked UNC Pembroke men's basketball team the lead for good and the Braves successfully opened the exhibition portion of their 2015-16 schedule with a 100-92 win over the All-Army team on Friday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

The triumph marked the third-straight win in exhibition contests for UNCP dating back to last season when the Black & Gold toppled Athletes In Action at home, before dispelling of eventual Conference USA Champion UAB. The victory also avenged a 73-61 loss to All-Army last season on Fort Bragg.

Rose scored 20 points and added 13 rebounds and six assists to pace the Braves, who also got a 20-point, 5-block effort from Watts. Brandon Winford turned in a double-double as well with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Tyler Kordenbrock registered 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

Denzell Hosch, a Shelby native, led all scorers with 31 points on 10-of-26 shooting for All-Army, who also got 16 points off the bench from former Southern Illinois standout Mamadou Seck.

All-Army took its last lead of the contest on a 3-pointer by Mark Christmas with 2:38 left in the second extra period, but Rose delivered a go-ahead 3-pointer on the ensuing trip down the floor and, following a key steal by Kordenbrock, Watts hit another trey 34 seconds later to give the Braves a 93-89 advantage. All-Army cut it down to a one-possession game following a pair of free throws by Hosch with just less than a minute to play, but the visitors missed their last four shots to seal the outcome.

The All-Army squad led by 10 points, 64-54, with just less than eight minutes left in regulation, but UNCP scored the game's next 10 points to even things back up four minutes later. Both teams had a chance to win the game down the stretch, but shots from Seck and Rose both went for naught.

The Braves will close out the preseason portion of their 2015-16 schedule on Friday when they head to Winston-Salem to take on Wake Forest inside Lawrence Joel Coliseum. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
