Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 25 Lander Posts Overtime Victory Over Men's Soccer, 2-1

PEMBROKE -
Lander's Robert Seaton scored the game-winning goal just more than five minutes into overtime to push the No. 25 Bearcats past the UNC Pembroke men's soccer team, 2-1, in Peach Belt Conference action on Wednesday evening at Varsity Grounds in Pembroke.

The loss was the second-straight for the Braves (4-4-1, 1-2-1 PBC), while the visiting Bearcats (8-0-0, 3-0-0 PBC) remained perfect this season.

Junior Branco Theis collected a pass from Jordan Walshaw and Tom Potter in the box for a one-timer from just six yards out to put the Braves on the board first at the 69:30 mark which and that lead held up for more than 15 minutes. In the 88th minute, Hugo Delhommelle drilled a hard shot from the top of the box on a pass from Sam Lofts to even up the contest, 1-1, and send the game into overtime.

Despite being outshot in the contest, the Braves logged four shots on goal in the first half as senior Josh Phelps narrowly missed the target twice with netminder Barrett Neilsen there for the stop. Lander controlled six additional shots in the second half and posted three in the overtime period, while also notching 10 of the 16 corner kicks.

Sophomore Kenneth Perkinson was behind five saves during his 95:29 in goal despite the loss, while Nielsen also logged five saves. Phelps led the charge for the Braves with six shots, while Theis added four and Jordan Walshaw and Tom Potter posted a trio of strikes. Lander was led by Lofts with seven shots, while nine other Bearcats registered at least one shot.

A combined 29 fouls were called in the game, including 13 on the Black and Gold in the second stanza alone. Lander received the first of six yellow cards issued in the contest, but the Braves ended the contest with the only ejection.

The Black and Gold will return to the field on October 14 for a regional tilt with Coker (2-5-1) at Varsity Grounds in Pembroke with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. Admission to all 2015 home soccer matches is free.
