MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College let a 14-point second half lead slip away in the game's final minutes, but Terrell Harris's 3-pointer with 19 seconds left was enough to lift the Bobcats to a 77-74 win over the visiting UNC Pembroke men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in the Centennial Center.
The setback marked the fifth loss in the last six outings for the Braves (6-6, 0-3 PBC) who will now get a two-week reprieve from action before resuming their season on January 2. Georgia College (10-1, 2-0) has now won four-straight contests, as well as 15-straight meetings with the Black & Gold in Milledgeville, Ga.
Brandon Winford scored 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds for UNCP, who controlled a 46-22 advantage in the rebounding column, including 23 offensive boards. Jihad Wright chipped in 14 points and eight boards, while Alex Bradley tallied 12 points and Giavonni Mack totaled 11.
Harris posted a game-best 28 points on 12-of-17 shooting for the Bobcats who shot 55.1 percent from the field, including a 9-of-22 success rate from the perimeter. Ryan Blumenthal scored 15 points for the hosts as well.
A dunk by Harris with 10:23 to play gave Georgia College a 69-55 lead, but the Braves responded with a 19-2 run to eventually knott the contest up on a pair of free throws by Wright with 47 seconds left. Harris's trey eight seconds after a called timeout by the Braves would cap the scoring. The Black & Gold went 0-for-4 from the line down the stretch, and Mack's potential game-tying 3-pointer with 20 seconds left careened off the iron.
Mack's running jumper at the 10:51 mark in the first half gave UNCP an 18-10 lead, but the Bobcats whittled away at the deficit and eventually took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Dwight Anderson with 1:21 left before the intermission.
The Braves will get two weeks off before continuing their four-game home stand on January 2 when they trek to northwest Georgia to battle PBC East rival Augusta (3-4, 0-1) in the back end of a 1:30 p.m. basketball doubleheader inside Christenberry Fieldhouse.
