PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke women's soccer team scored six times in the opening half and did not allow a look at their goal until late in the second half as the Braves routed Georgia Southwestern, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Grounds.
The triumph allowed the Braves (2-3-0, 1-0-0 PBC) to stay perfect in their 10-game-old series with Georgia Southwestern (1-3-0, 0-1-0) who fell to 0-6-0 all-time in Pembroke. UNCP has now outscored the Hurricanes, 44-2, in a series that dates back to the 2006 season.
Jasmine Senécal-Guzman and newcomer Kate Weisner each registered a pair of goals to pace the potent UNCP offense, while Courtney Crump turned in a career-best 11 shots, including seven on goal. Freshman Mackenzie Wright also matched a school record with a trio of assists.
The hosts took the lead for good on a goal in the third minute by Katie Watkins, but Senécal-Guzman netted a pair of scores 34 seconds apart nearly 15 minutes later to blow the game open. Weisner punched in two more goals before halftime to give UNCP a 6-0 lead at the break.
The Black & Gold will return to action on September 19 when it heads to Morrow, Ga., for a neutral site contest against league foe Montevallo (0-2-2, 0-0-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Clayton State's Laker Field.
