ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The visiting UNC Pembroke volleyball team was held to just 24 kills as Flagler boasted a .304 hitting percentage in the game with 46 kills to take the 3-0 Peach Belt Conference win over the Braves on Friday evening in Flagler Gymnasium.
The Braves (3-12, 0-3 PBC) fell in their second-consecutive contest, while Flagler (8-2, 1-0) posted its eighth win the last nine games. The set scores were 25-17, 25-19, 25-17.
Senior Nicole Mathews logged UNCP's only double-digit at the net with 10 kills, while junior Josephine Yang added 12 digs. Caroline Pridgen finished up the contest with seven kills as Cecilia Brandon hit a team-high .333 from the net. The Black and Gold collected five team blocks as Pridgen and Brittani Jefferson both had a solo block and one block assist.
In set one, UNCP controlled a 10-8 lead following a serving error, but with a tied score at the 13-13 mark, the Saints used a 12-4 run and a .324 hitting percentage to take the lead. An evenly paced second set tied up the game at 7-7, but a seven-point run gave the Saints the advantage the Braves were unable to overcome. Flagler captured the final set in a similar fashion to the opening set to grab the 3-0 win.
Flagler had 12 different athletes register at least one kill in the contest with Sara Davis leading the way with eight. Tara Savisky dished out 34 assists and led the team with eight digs. The Saints totaled eight service aces, but committed 10 errors in the process.
UNCP will face off against Armstrong State (5-4, 1-0) on Saturday with a 2 p.m. matchup in Savannah, Ga.
