CHARLOTTE – Ashley Osiecki's 83rd minute strike completed a two-goal comeback effort for Queens as the Royals turned back the visiting UNC Pembroke women's soccer team with a 2-1 win over the Braves on Tuesday evening at the Queens Sports Complex.
The setback kept the Braves (0-3-0) winless through three games this season, while giving the Royals (2-1-0) their second-straight victory. The triumph also helped Queens snap a four-game series losing streak as well.
Jasmine Senécal-Guzman logged her third career goal to provide the only scoring for the Braves who were outshot by a 23-9 count, including a 14-5 disparity in the opening half. Newcomer Mackenzie Wright logged an assist for the visitors as well.
Queens countered Senécal-Guzman's 13th minute goal with Charlotte King's Equalizer in the 25th minute and the teams went into the halftime break at a 1-1 standstill. That score would hold up despite a myriad of shot attempts through the first 37 minutes of the second period before Osiecki put her team up for good on a header at the 82:37 mark.
UNCP will make its home debut on Thursday when it suits up to battle region nemesis Pfeiffer (1-1-0) in a 4 p.m. contest at Varsity Grounds. Admission to all 2015 UNCP soccer home games is free.
