AUGUSTA, Ga. – A phenomenal week on the hardwood that saw her average a double-double in leading the UNC Pembroke women's basketball team to a pair of home victories has earned junior Jonissa Monley Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week accolades, the league office announced Monday.
A Laurinburg native and Scotland High School graduate, Monley averaged 16.0 points and 13.5 rebounds per game last week, while also shooting 62.5 percent from the field in home wins over Francis Marion and North Georgia. She notched her third and fourth career double-doubles in the process, while also adding two blocks and an assist as well.
She began her dominant week with an 18-point, 14-rebound effort against Francis Marion that saw her shoot 8-of-12 from the floor, including a 4-for-4 showing in the opening half. Monley continued her dominance inside against North Georgia on Saturday, pouring in 14 points and pulling down 13 boards, while also adding two blocks and an assist as well. She scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the second half alone against the Nighthawks.
Monley has played in 64 games (12 starts) for the Black & Gold over the last three seasons and boasts career averages of 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. She is averaging 10.1 points and 7.8 rebounds for the Braves this season.
