Men's Basketball Tops Flagler In Key PBC Road Tilt

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The UNC Pembroke men's basketball team canned nine 3-pointers, dominated the glass and led wire-to-wire on the way to snapping a three-game skid with an impressive 87-73 victory at Flagler on Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gym.

The triumph helped the Braves (11-10, 5-7 PBC) improve to 11-2 all-time against Flagler, while also giving the Black & Gold their fourth road victory of the season in the process as well. It was the fifth-straight loss for the Saints (6-14, 2-10) who have now dropped three-straight home games as well.

Alex Bradley scored a career-high 24 points and also logged seven assists to pace the visitors who moved into a three-way tie for third in the race for the PBC East title. Jihad Wright matched a career-high with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting, while Brandon Watts tallied 16 points, three assists, two steals and four boards in 38 minutes of action.

Keith Gray totaled 19 points to lead the Saints who were out-rebounded by a 51-30 margin in the loss. Matt Clark added 16 points, while Vaughn McCall came off the bench to register 13.

UNCP shot 53.1 percent in the second half and led by double digits for much of the second half of action. Flagler pulled to within six points, 70-64, on a pair of free throws by Keith Gray with just more than seven minutes to play, but went scoreless over the final two minutes of the contest to seal the outcome.

Brandon Winford's layup with 8:23 left in the first half broke a 21-21 tie and sparked the Braves on an 8-1 run that broke the game open. A free throw by McCall at the 3:19 mark brought the Saints to within a lone possession, 33-30, but the Black & Gold closed out the first half with a 9-2 run that allowed it to take a 44-32 lead into the intermission.

The Braves will open up a short two-game homestand on Wednesday when they suit up to battle PBC East rival USC Aiken (4-15, 2-10) in the second half of a 5:30 p.m. Military Appreciation Night doubleheader at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
