AMERICUS, Ga.  – Four second-half goals from four different Braves pushed the UNC Pembroke women's soccer squad past host Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon at the GSW Soccer Field in Americus, 4-0.

The Braves (6-2, 4-0 Peach Belt Conference (PBC)) have now won six-consecutive games by a combined score of 12-1 and sit in second place in the league standings. The Hurricanes (3-6, 0-4 PBC) are losers of three straight and are still searching for their first league win.

UNCP outshot the hosts 19-1 in the opening 45 minutes, but were held scoreless by the stifling 'Canes defense. But just over 10 minutes into the second half, the floodgates opened and the Braves found the back of the net four times in a span of 16 minutes.

"Even though we didn't score in the first half, I didn't think we played all that poorly," head coach Lars Andersson said. "We were just very inefficient in the final third."

Sophomore Stacey Scott broke the 0-0 tie in the 57th minute, taking a cross from Jillian Robsob in the box and beating the keeper in the upper right. It was Scott's second goal of the 2016 campaign and Robson's first assist.

Just 38 seconds after the initial tally, junior Katie Watkins doubled the UNCP lead with her second goal of the season. Scott was on the assist end this time, her first of the year.

It took less than four minutes for the Braves to extend the advantage to 3-0, when sophomore Mackenzie Wright got her foot on a cross from Carly Rochelle and deposited the ball low and left of the netminder. It's Rochelle's first assist of the season and goal number two for Wright.

The fourth and final tally came in the 73rd minute when senior Amber Watkins emerged from a scramble in the box to score her second goal of the season. An assist was credited to Watkins' sister Katie, her first.

Freshman Gina Ryan started in net for the Black & Gold, playing the first 73:47 of the game, holding Georgia Southwestern scoreless on four shots. Sophomore Courtney Almon played the final 16:13 in net for UNCP, saving the only shot her way.

"We were able to regroup and reorganize at halftime," Andersson said. "I can't complain at all about how we played in the second half. We created a ton of chances and got the result we came for."

The Braves' 29 shots are a season high, as are the 14 shots on goal. The visitors took 12 corner kicks Saturday and not did surrender one corner opportunity to the Hurricanes.

Scott led all Braves with seven shots, followed by six from Wright and three from Rochelle. Twelve different UNCP players recorded at least one shot, including nine of the 10 starting field players.

"In the end, this is a conference road win, and those are hard to come by," Andersson said.

But he knows a slow start isn's a recipe for success in the future.

"If we play that way against the top teams in the conference, it's going to come back to haunt us," Andersson said.

The Black & Gold return home for a Wednesday contest with league foe Francis Marion. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Lumbee River EMC Stadium. The Patriots (0-9, 0-4 PBC) have been outscored 50-6 in their first nine contests, including 22-3 in four conference games. Wednesday will be the first meeting between the Braves and Patriots since 2004. Francis Marion holds a 6-0 advantage in series history.
