RALEIGH – All-American
Blaze Shade picked up the 101st and 102nd win of his illustrious collegiate career, but the 16th-ranked UNC Pembroke wrestling team fell to a pair of NCAA Division I foes on Saturday afternoon at the NC State-hosted Wolfpack Duals.
The Braves (0-2) registered a pair of individual victories in their opening match of the day, including Shade's 2-0 victory at 174 pounds, but the Black & Gold dropped a 43-6 decision to the 9th-ranked Wolfpack (2-0). NC State showcased four nationally-ranked wrestlers in its starting lineup, and tacked up eight bonus-point victories to fuel the win.
Air Force (1-1) won each of the first six individual matchups to build a 21-0 lead on the team scoreboard, before Shade broke up the monotony with a 6-4 overtime victory over Randy Meneweather.
Mikey Thomas also captured a forfeit victory in the 184-pound matchup.
The Braves also competed at the Ferrum-hosted Star City Open in southwest Virginia on Saturday. Results will be posted at UNCPBraves.com once that tournament has concluded.
