PEMBROKE –
Jonissa Monley's 10th-career double-double was not enough for the UNC Pembroke women's basketball team to overtake Armstrong State Saturday afternoon at Lumbee Guaranty Court, as the Braves fell 60-48.
The loss is the seventh in the last eight games for the Braves (9-14, 4-12 PBC), who are now officially eliminated from postseason contention. Armstrong State (15-10, 7-9 PBC) has now won six of the last nine and now sits fourth in the PBC East.
Monley racked up a team-high 13 points on 5-of-16 shooting and brought down 10 rebounds. It's the 11th-consecutive contest she's scored at least 10 points and her ninth double-double in the last 11 games.
LaShonda Prichard added 11 points for her third double-figure scoring game of the season, while
Avery Locklear went for eight points, knocking down two of her five 3-point attempts.

The Black & Gold jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter with 5:30 on the clock, but the Pirates ended the period on an 11-5 run to cut the Braves' lead to 12-11. The teams shot a combined 29 percent in the first, but heated up in the second 10 minutes, scoring a combined 36 points on 44-percent shooting.
The Braves led 29-27 with under a minute to play in the half before Raymonville knocked down a 3-pointer to give Armstrong State a lead they never surrendered. The Pirates took a 30-29 lead into halftime and held a 44-38 advantage after three quarters. The Black & Gold could not draw closer than six in the final period.
