FLORENCE, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke baseball team pushed across lone runs in the first and fourth innings behind a career-long outing from Daniel Batts as the Braves avoided a weekend sweep at Francis Marion with a 2-1 victory over the Patriots on Sunday.

Drew Beaver doubled on a 2-for-4 day at the plate for the Braves (24-14, 10-11 PBC) who effectively snapped a five-game losing streak and moved into a four-way tie for sixth place in the Peach Belt Conference standings. Nick Debo (1-for-3) walked, singled in a run and scored once for the visitors as well. Nick Salisbury tallied an 0-for-4 day at the plate that ended his streak of reaching base safely at 27 games.

Antonio Pino (2-for-4) singled twice on four trips to the plate for Francis Marion (22-17, 10-11), while Logan Koch (1-for-4) provided the lone RBI for the hosts.

Batts (3-0) shined in his second career start, limiting the Patriots to three hits and a trio of walks over six innings of work, while also striking out a trio of Patriots. Kyle Ramsey inherited a one-run lead to start the seventh and closed out the game with three scoreless innings to grab his second save of the campaign.

Brandon Cook (4-3), who blew a save opportunity in Friday's night's series-opening win for FMU, took the loss this time around after allowing a pair of runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks in 5-1/3 innings from the hill. He also struck out four.

Debo's RBI groundout with one out in the top of the first gave the Black & Gold a lead it would never relinquish. Nolan Pierce's fielder's choice RBI in the fourth pushed the visitors' advantage out to 2-0, but the Patriots cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the frame thanks to a two-out RBI single by Koch that barely escaped the outstretched glove of Beaver at shortstop.

Batts faced four or less batters in all but one frame of his six-inning gem. He retired the side in order in both the third and fifth innings.

The Braves will return home again on Tuesday for a rematch with Barton (26-14) at Sammy Cox Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Bulldogs posted a 10-9 victory over UNCP earlier this season in Wilson.
