WOMEN'S NOTES
  • The Lady Braves (9-4, 4-2 PBC) bested host Montevallo in their last outing, a 76-56 triumph Monday evening at Trustmark Arena. The win is the second-consecutive for UNCP and gives it four wins in the last five contests. It was the second 20-point victory in as many games for the Black & Gold.
  • Senior Jonissa Monley hauled in a season-best 16 rebounds Monday and paired those with 17 points for her fifth double-double of the season. Monley leads the Braves with 11.0 points and 8.6 rebounds per game and her rebounding average is eighth-best in the PBC. She is one of seven conference players to have at least five double-doubles this season. Classmate Jasmine Huntley is the only other Brave averaging double-figure scoring (10.0) and dishes out a team-best 3.6 assists per game. Ebone Stevens ranks third in the league with a 43.6-percent mark from behind the arc and averages 6.8 points per tilt.
  • UNCP ranks second among the 14 PBC institutions in 3-point field goal attempts per game (21.6), defensive rebounds per game (31.2), total rebounds per game (45.4) and opponent 3-point field goal percentage (23.5). The Black & Gold ranks third in 3-point field goals made per game (6.8) and home attendance average (397). The Braves are 5-1 at home this season, including five-consecutive wins at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court, and are currently in a tie for second in the PBC East Division standings, just one-half game behind Lander.
  • Young Harris (6-6, 2-3 PBC) sits sixth in the PBC West Division race and has dropped three of its last four overall. Last time out, the Mountain Lions fell 65-49 to No. 24 Columbus State. Young Harris is 3-3 away from home this season.
  • The Mountain Lions get to the charity stripe well, ranking fourth in the PBC with 22.0 free throw attempts per game. They rank fifth in 3-point field goal attempts per game (18.2), but sit 12th with 66.0 points per contest. Young Harris boasts a trio of players in double-figure scoring, paced by Meredith Tarver at 15.9 per game, good for ninth in the PBC. Briana Bell pours in 12.7 per game, followed by Jenny Vernet with 11.3 per contest. Vernet and Tarver both rank among the league top 10 in rebounds per game at 10.4 and 8.8, respectively.
  • In the short three-game history between the schools, UNCP holds a 3-1 advantage over the Mountain Lions, including the last three meetings. The Braves are 1-1 in the two meetings in Pembroke, including a 69-62 triumph last season behind 17 points from Monley and a double-double from Airico Williams (12 points, 12 rebounds).

MEN'S NOTES
  • The Braves (11-4, 4-2 PBC) rattled off their second-straight victory with a 92-83 road win at Montevallo on Monday evening. The Black & Gold trailed by a dozen points with 14:22 left to play, but shot 69 percent in the second half and used a late 22-8 run to register its second-straight series road win over the Falcons.
  • UNCP is 6-1 at home this season, with its only blemish coming in the form of an 80-78 setback to Augusta earlier this month. The Braves have averaged better than 88 points an outing in their previous seven home contests, and have tallied more than 10 steals and nearly seven blocks per game in Pembroke as well.
  • The Braves have shot better than 50 percent from the field in the second half this season, and are outscoring opponents by 6.4 points per game in the stanza as well. That second half scoring exhibition by the Black & Gold this season has also included a 40.4 percent success rate from the perimeter and 75.1 percent shooting from the charity stripe.
  • PBC West-leading Young Harris (11-3, 5-0) has now won six-straight games after Wednesday evening's 90-79 home win over Columbus State. The Mountain Lions are 6-2 away from home this season, and will bring a four-game win streak in such contests into Pembroke this weekend.
  • Two-time all-PBC selection C.J. Wilson has registered a team-best 20.4 points per game for Young Harris this season and has scored 21 or more points in each of the last three games. Marcellus Roberts leads the Mountain Lions in rebounding (6.7/game), and is second in the league in field goal percentage with a 62.1 percent success rate. Ben Waterhouse ranks second in the league as well with 47.8 percent perimeter shooting.
  • The Braves have split the four-game series with the Mountain Lions, and snapped a two-game series losing skid with a 78-72 victory over YHC last season in Pembroke. The home team has won all four games in the series, and the last three matchups have been decided by seven or less points.
