Gina Zhang took first in the 200-yard individual medley, sophomore
Kelsey Williams won the 100 freestyle and the UNC Pembroke women's swimming and diving squad set personal bests in five separate events in a loss to region rival St. Andrews Thursday afternoon at O'Herron Pool.
Zhang touched the wall for the fifth time this season overall and the second instance in the 200 IM, coming in at 2:26.40, almost five seconds faster than the runner-up. In her second event of the day, the Beijing, China native set a new personal standard in the 100 butterfly, touching in 1:05.94 for a second-place finish. Zhang wrapped up her day with another runner-up finish in the 500 free in 5:51.92, just six one-hundredths of a second off her personal best.
In the 100 free, Williams won her first event of the season in a time of 1:04.26, shaving nine one-hundredths of a second off her personal best. She bested the field by over 10 seconds. Williams took second in the 200 free in 2:21.87 and touched third in the 50 backstroke in 42.02.
Sophomore
Emmaline Mansfield was the only Brave to set a pair of personal bests Thursday, doing so in both the 200 free (3:12.28) and the 500 free (9:04.24), finishing fourth and third, respectively. Freshman
Amanda Snider set a new personal standard in the 50 free, placing third in 32.08. She reeled in a third-place finish in the 100 free (1:19.67) and a fourth-place finish in the 50 backstroke (42.79).
Junior
Sonyaliz Goveo grabbed a runner-up finish in the 50 butterfly in a time of 37.50, while also finishing third twice, in the 100 backstroke (1:13.70) and the 100 breaststroke (1:32.34). Her backstroke time was under half a second off her personal best. Sophomore
Taylor Lusk was just over a second slower than her personal mark in the 100 free, grabbing runner-up honors in 1:14.87. She also took third in the 200 free and fourth in the 50 free. Junior
Alexys Pagan swam in two events, the 50 backstroke and the 100 backstroke, touching third and fourth, respectively.
The Braves have a quick turnaround, jumping back in the pool Saturday for a tri-meet against Limestone and Emmanuel. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. at the Timken Aquatic Center in Gaffney, South Carolina.
