LAURINBURG, N.C. – Junior
Aquia Jones uncorked a career-high 15 kills on 35 attacks and the UNC Pembroke volleyball team won the opening set 25-17 over St. Andrews, but the host Knights bounced back to win the next three sets and knock off the Braves 3-1 on Tuesday evening in Laurinburg.

FIRST SET
-The Braves used a 9-2 run to turn a 12-12 tie into a commanding 21-14 lead en route to a commanding 25-17 first-set victory.

Aquia Jones' three opening-set kills came in the final three points and were sandwiched around a Knights' attack error.
SECOND SET
-St. Andrews claimed nine of the first 11 points to jump out to a 9-2 lead and UNCP did not get closer than five points in the remainder of the 25-14 Knights' match-tying win.
THIRD SET
-The Black & Gold held leads of 16-12 and 19-16, but St. Andrews won six of the final nine points to erase the deficit and take a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-23 triumph.
-Tied at 23-23, the Knights grabbed the final two points on a kill from Kiah Cheatham and a service ace by Autumn Baker.
FOURTH SET
-Another hot start led to the Knights' second 9-2 lead of the night, which proved too much for the Braves to overcome in a 25-20, match-clinching victory for the hosts.
NOTABLES
-The Braves had more kills (48-46), assists (46-41) and digs (76-69) than the hosts, but hit just .126 as a team compared to St. Andrews' .162 attack percentage.

Aquia Jones' career-high 15 kills bested he previous high by two and the junior added a trio of block assists.

Madelyn Ashwell came just one kill and one dig from her third double-double of the season, as the sophomore put away nine kills and had nine digs. She tacked on two block assists and a service ace.

Bailee Jones picked up her fifth double-double of the season with a team-best 22 assists and 12 digs. She also had one service ace.

Cayce Bell put up 25 digs for sixth time this season and the senior is now just 19 digs from 1,000 in her UNCP career.
UP NEXT
The Braves return home for the first time in what will be a 15-day span on Friday to host Augusta in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) action. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court on Think Pink Night in Pembroke. The Jaguars (12-10, 3-3 PBC) had lost six of their last seven overall before a 3-1 defeat of Newberry on Tuesday.
