RALEIGH – The UNC Pembroke wrestling team picked up its first victory of the season with a 27-10 triumph over 18
th-ranked (NAIA) Reinhardt, but fell to pair of NCAA Division I foes in Utah Valley and 7
th-ranked NC State on Saturday evening at the Wolfpack Duals in Reynolds Coliseum.
The nationally-ranked Wolfpack began its unblemished day with a 48-0 win over the Black & Gold, but UNCP rebounded just more than an hour later by topping Reinhardt, 27-10. NCAA Division I foe Utah Valley registered a 36-9 victory over the Braves in the nightcap.
Joey DiMartino recorded a pair of victories on the day, first with an 8-6 decision over Reinhardt's Michael Carew, and then with a forfeit victory in the matchup with Utah Valley. UNCP picked up wins from seven different wrestlers in the win over the Eagles, including bonus-point victories by
Nick Daggett,
Tyler Makosy and
Bryce Walker.
The Braves will be back in action on Sunday when they remain in Raleigh to take part in the NC State-hosted Wolfpack Open inside Carmichael Gymnasium. Wrestling action is expected to get underway at 9 a.m.
