FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team was looking for back-to-back wins with a victory over Emmanuel on Tuesday evening, but the host Lions got the better of the Braves in straight sets at the Shaw Athletic Center in Franklins Springs.

FIRST SET
-The Braves led early in the opening set on a
Madelyn Ashwell kill and extended the lead to two on a kill from
Kiara Price.
-Emmanuel took its first lead at 6-5 on a kill in the midst of a 4-0 run that put the hosts out front 8-5.
-A kill by
Michelle Voyer brought the Black & Gold to within two at 17-15, but the Lions rattled off a 6-0 run to take a commanding 23-15 lead before winning two of the final three points to secure the set win.
SECOND SET
-A 3-2 early UNCP lead was erased by another 6-0 Emmanuel run to put the Lions up 8-3 and forced the Braves to call a timeout.
-The hosts ended the set on a 12-3 run to turn a slim, 13-10 lead into a 25-13 set two triumph.
THIRD SET
-Back-to-back kills from
April Tankersley and Ashwell pulled the Braves to within four at 11-7, but the Lions collected 11 of the next 12 rallies to go out front by a 22-8 margin.
-The Braves uncorked three kills and a block in the final eight points, but the deficit was too large to overcome, as Emmanuel locked up the match with a service ace.
NOTABLES
-Six different Braves recorded at least one kill, led by seven from Ashwell and six from Tankersley.

Makaylah Elliott registered a match-best five block assists to bring her season total to a team-high 53 blocks, which is good for second most in the Peach Belt Conference.

Miranda Cada dished out a 15 assists and
Cayce Bell notched a team-high 14 digs.

The Braves return home to do battle with region rival Fayetteville State Thursday at 6 p.m. at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. The Broncos (7-5) are winners of six of their last seven matches after starting the 2017 campaign 1-4. The last meeting between the sides was UNCP sweep in a 2014 match in Fayetteville.
