PEMBROKE – A season-high 11 blocks, in addition to eight service aces, fueled visiting Fayetteville State to a straight-sets victory over the UNC Pembroke volleyball team in non-conference action Thursday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

FIRST SET
-After trailing by four at 7-3, the Braves clawed back in the set with a 6-2 run to knot the score at 9-9 on a block by
Makaylah Elliott and
Madelyn Ashwell.
-UNCP took its first lead (12-11) on a block from
April Tankersley and
Kiara Price before increasing the lead to a pair with a Price kill.
-Neither side led by more than two points for the remainder of the set and the Braves were just two points from victory with
Aquia Jones uncorked a kill to put UNCP up 23-21.
-However, the next four rallies went the Broncos' way, as the guests erased the two-point deficit and claimed the opening set by a 25-23 margin.
SECOND SET
-An early 2-0 UNCP edge was wiped out by four-straight Fayetteville State points, which kicked off a 9-1 run that put the Broncos out front 9-3.
-Following a UNCP timeout, the Braves battled back to within four (9-5), but the Broncos used an 11-1 run this time to go up 21-7 and effectively secure the set.
THIRD SET
-Down just two at 8-6, the Braves looked poised to turn the match around, but Fayetteville State put the pedal down and rattled off a 7-1 run to increase the advantage to 15-7.
-The Broncos ended the set and match on a 10-2 run that turned a 15-9 lead into a 25-11 set-three triumph.
NOTABLES
-The Braves recorded 32 digs, led by 21 from libero
Cayce Bell and 15 from Ashwell.
-Ashwell added a match-high nine kills and one block assist.
-Price tacked on a season-best seven kills, two block assists and an assist.

Miranda Cada dished out a team-high 13 assists, while
Casey O'Quinn added 10 assists to the cause.
UP NEXT
A quick turnaround sees the Braves back in action Friday at Mount Olive. The non-conference contest is set to begin at 6 p.m. at Kornegay Arena. The Trojans (6-8) have lost two-straight matches to North Greenville and Barton after winning three of four outings from September 15-22. Friday will mark the first meeting between the Braves and Trojans since UNCP won a pair of matches over Mount Olive in 2014.
