MOUNT OLIVE – Five Braves set career records,
Madelyn Ashwell recorded her second double-double of the season and the UNC Pembroke volleyball squad notched more kills, aces, assists and digs than host Mount Olive, but the Trojans outlasted the Black & Gold in a five-set thriller Friday evening at Kornegay Arena.

FIRST SET
-The Trojans jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead, but UNCP responded with a 7-1 run of its own to take an 8-6 lead, finished off by a block from
Makaylah Elliott and
Miranda Cada.
-Down 9-8, the Braves rattled off a 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the set thus far at 15-9.
-Mount Olive scored five-straight points to pull within one at 17-16, but a Trojan ball-handling error and a kill from
Amber Tyndall extended the UNCP lead to three.
-The hosts clawed back to even at 22-22 before taking a 24-23 lead, but failed to convert their only set point.
-
Savannah Bean's kill evened the score at 24-all and a pair of Trojan attack errors gave the Braves a 26-24 set victory.
SECOND SET
-Kills from
Tyler Fitzpatrick and Elliott gave the Black & Gold an 11-5 lead, but the Trojans charged back to bring the set even at 16-16.
-Mount Olive built a 24-20 lead, but the first four set points were erased with an attack error followed by an Ashwell kill and a pair of kill from Tyndall.
-The Trojans used their fifth set point to finish off the 27-25 set victory on a UNCP attack error.
THIRD SET
-Nine of the first 10 points of the third set went the Trojans' way to give the hosts a commanding 9-1 advantage.
-A 5-0 run stretched the UMO lead to 15-4 en route to a 25-13 victory to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead in the match.
FOURTH SET
-Needing a fourth-set triumph to force a decisive fifth set, the Braves jumped out to a 12-7 lead thanks to four kills, three blocks and a pair of service aces.
-The Trojans pulled with two at 13-11, but a steady UNCP attack allowed the Braves to maintain the lead and win the set 25-16.
FIFTH SET
-Four-straight UNCP points (Tyndall/Bean block, Ashwell kill, Bean kill, Ashwell kill) put the Braves up 4-2, but six of the next seven rallies went to the Trojans to give the hosts an 8-5 edge.
-The Braves got as close as two at 8-6, but Mount Olive rattled off seven of the final 11 points to secure the set 15-10 and the match 3-2.
NOTABLES
-The Braves held advantages in kills (53-45), aces (11-9), assists (50-41) and digs (92-89) and each stat was the second-most in a match for the Black & Gold this season.
-Elliott's 17 kills, Tyndall's 13 kills,
Cayce Bell's 35 digs, Cada's 35 assists and Bean's five block assists were all career highs, while Ashwell used 10 kills and 12 digs to notch her double-double.
-Five Braves recorded at least 10 digs and six Braves dished out at least one assist.

The Braves leap back into Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play with a Tuesday road tilt at Francis Marion. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Smith University Center in Florence. The Patriots (5-8, 1-3 PBC) took a pair of matches from UNCP last season by scores of 3-1 and 3-0.
