Volleyball Gets Back On Track, Sweeps Converse

PEMBROKE – Freshman Brianna Warren registered six kills, a trio of digs and a season-best seven blocks and three players turned in double-digit kill totals to lead on the UNC Pembroke volleyball team to a straight-sets (25-18, 25-17, 25-22) victory over visiting Converse on Tuesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
 
The victory snapped a two-match skid for the Braves (8-15) who matched their 2017 win total with the triumph as well. The Valkyries (5-20) fell to 0-5 all-time in the series with UNCP, including four losses via sweep.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-18 Converse led 13-10 after an attack error by the hosts, but UNCP responded with a 6-1 lead to forge a 16-14 advantage minutes later. The Valkyries threatened to retake the lead after a kill by Morgan Pearson made it a 17-16 set, but the Braves posted a pair of three-point runs and eventually closed it out on kills from Shannon Skryd and Ashley Caesar.
SET 2 I 25-17 The Valkyries controlled action early on, but an ill-timed service error by the visitors sparked the Black & Gold on a 7-2 run that gave it the lead for good. A kill by Kaylee Owens pulled Converse to within a pair of points, 15-13, but the Braves tacked up four-straight points to add some security to their lead.
SET 3 I 11-25 Converse tallied seven of the first 10 points in the final set of the night, but the Black & Gold responded with an 8-1 run to grab all of the momentum. The Valkyries would not go away quietly, however, and eventually went out on top by three points after a kill from Ansley Hodge. The Braves would respond again, however, this time with seven-straight points that put them ahead for good.

The Braves will continue a three-match home stand on Friday when they step back into Peach Belt Conference play to battle league-leading USC Aiken (14-3, 4-1 PBC) at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
