Soccer Rallies For Two Late Scores, Draws At Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College goalkeeper Ashlee Graham snuffed out an 85th minute shot by Stacey Scott to preserve a 2-0 advantage, but the UNC Pembroke soccer team scored two goals 91 seconds apart minutes later to forge a tie with red-hot Georgia College on Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Field.
 
The draw marked the first tie of the season for the Braves (7-4-1, 4-3-1 PBC) who stretched their series unbeaten streak out to four games as well. It was the second tie in the last three home contests for the Bobcats (9-3-3, 3-2-3) who fell to 4-0-2 at Bobcat Field this season.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
2' Georgia College got the scoring started almost immediately as Cassie Balzono redirected a cross from Unnbjorg Omarsdottir into the back of the net at the 1:51 mark. GC 1, UNCP 0
12' The Bobcats padded their lead out to a pair of goals less than 10 minutes later when Unnbjorg Omarsdottir collected a deflection off of a free kick by Erin Ferris and blasted a shot past UNCP netminder Gina Ryan. GC 2, UNCP 0
86' Stacey Scott and Bree Mason strung together passes to find a wide-open Carly Rochelle who connected on a shot inside the far post to cut UNCP's deficit in half. GC 2, UNCP 1
88' Carly Rochelle was on the giving end 91 seconds later when she and Bree Mason both registered assists on Alexis Pittman's Equalizer.  GC 2, UNCP 2
 
TOP BRAVES
+ Carly Rochelle logged points for the second-straight game, this time providing both a goal and an assist to help UNCP's cause. She also matched a season-best with three shots.
+ Freshman Bree Mason recorded her second multi-assist game of the season, tallying an assist on both goals while also turning in one shot.
+ Alexis Pittman registered her fourth goal of the season, and her first score since UNCP's setback at Columbus State on October 4
+ Stacey Scott turned in a game-best six shots (five on goal), while also putting up an assist for the second-straight game.
 
NOTABLES
+ The Braves have now gotten a result (win or tie) in five out of their last six Peach Belt Conference contests, and sit in fifth place in the latest league standings.
+ UNCP is now 9-6-3 all-time in the series with the Bobcats, and stretched their series unbeaten streak out to four games with Saturday's result. Georgia College's last win the series was a 2-1 triumph over the Braves in the 2015 PBC Tournament quarterfinals.
 
 
UP NEXT
UNCP will return home again on Tuesday when the Braves suit up to battle 25th-ranked North Georgia (10-2-1, 6-1-1 PBC) at Lumbee River EMC Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. and admission to all 2018 UNCP Soccer home games is free.
