Hot-Handed Augusta Sweeps Volleyball

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Home-standing Augusta hit better than .400 at the net and registered six blocks and a quartet of service aces to fuel a straight-sets victory (25-17, 25-13, 25-9) over the UNC Pembroke volleyball team on Saturday afternoon at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
 
The contest was the first of two on the day for the Braves (9-19, 0-10 PBC) who will make the short trip east later today to battle league-leading USC Aiken. The triumph marked the sixth victory in the last seven outings for the Jaguars (20-5, 7-3) who will wrap up their regular season schedule next weekend against the top two teams in the conference.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 17-25 Augusta tallied a .421 attack percentage on the way to taking the opening set of the day. The Jaguars led 10-3 after a kill by Alyssa Frazier, but the Braves answered with a 10-2 run and eventually went up 13-12 on attack error by Frazier. The hosts, however, would turn the tides with an ensuing 11-3 run to grab the momentum back.
SET 2 I 13-25 A service error by the Jaguars brought the Braves to within a pair of points, 9-7, but Augusta scored six of the next seven points to re-pad their lead. UNCP tacked up consecutive points moments later, but the hosts generated a 6-1 run again to key the set victory.
SET 3 I 9-25 The hosts hit better than .500 and scored 16 of the first 20 points of the final set to fuel the final outcome. The Jags led 16-4 after a kill by McKenzey Beck, and then traded points with the Braves before closing it out with a 6-3 run.
