USC Aiken Trudges Past Volleyball In Three Sets

AIKEN, S.C. – League-leading USC Aiken hit just .196, but took advantage of 25 hitting errors by the UNC Pembroke volleyball team to post a three-set sweep (25-15, 25-21, 25-19) of the Braves on Saturday evening inside the Convocation Center.
 
The setback wrapped up a tough 3-match, 24-hour road trip for the Braves (9-20, 0-11 PBC) who will close out the home portion of their regular season schedule on Tuesday against Southern Wesleyan. It was the fifth-straight victory for the Pacers (19-3, 9-1) who wrapped up at least a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular season title with the win as well.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 15-25 After splitting the first 18 points of the set, USC Aiken put together a 6-1 to take control. The Braves tacked up two-straight points to whittle their deficit back to 15-12, but the Pacers closed out the first set with a 10-3 run.
SET 2 I 21-25 The Pacers committed nine errors in the second set, but a pair of late 4-point runs proved to be the difference. UNCP took a 15-14 advantage on a service error by the hosts, but USC Aiken scored four-straight points to go out in front, 18-15. The Black & Gold closed to within two points, 19-17, on another attack error by the hosts, but the Pacers strung together another 4-0 run to pull away for good.
SET 3 I 19-25 The squads split the first 16 points of the third set, but the Pacers put together a 6-2 run that gave them the lead for good. The Braves pulled to within two points, 19-17, on a kill by Shannon Skryd, but USC Aiken closed out the night with a 6-2 run to clinch the match.
