Volleyball Makes Quick Work Of Elizabeth City State

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit better than .200 at the net and benefited from 28 attack errors by visiting Elizabeth City State on the way to a sweep (25-15, 25-12, 25-16) of the Vikings on Tuesday afternoon at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

It was the third win in the last four outings for the Braves (6-12) who will get a short rest before hitting the court again on Tuesday evening against Mount Olive. The Vikings (4-16) fell to 0-10 all-time against the Braves, and have now dropped 22-straight sets in a series that dates back to the 2009 season.

GAME REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-15 The Braves scored seven of the first eight points, and then scored points in handfuls for much of the remainder of the opening set. UNCP grabbed a 23-9 advantage on a ball-handling error by the Vikings and that sparked a 6-0 run by the visitors that was eventually stuffed on back-to-back kills from Brianna Warren and Elly Hicks.
SET 2 I 25-12 The two teams traded points early on, but Tyler Fitzpatrick's kill made it an 8-4 set and sparked the hosts on a 5-0 run that put some distance between them and the Vikings. Elizabeth City State closed to within 14-9 on a kill from D'Kota Hinton-Louis, but the Braves scored the final eight points to put themselves in position.
SET 3 I 25-16 The Vikings took a 9-5 lead on an Elizabeth Cagle kill midway through, but UNCP eventually strung together five-straight points to take the lead for good. The Vikings pulled to within a lone point, 14-13, on key blocks by the visitors, but the Black & Gold tacked up five of the next six points, and then ended the match with a 5-0 run.
