Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 22 Men’s Basketball Gets Big Road Win At Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.James Murray-Boyles came off the bench to score a game-high 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting and the 22nd-ranked UNC Pembroke men's basketball team registered its first win at Georgia College in more than two decades with a 75-58 victory over the Bobcats on Saturday afternoon in the Centennial Center.

The triumph snapped a 16-game series road losing streak for the Braves (17-4, 13-2 PBC) who had not tasted victory in the Centennial Center since an 81-78 triumph on Feb. 12 1994. Georgia College (10-11, 6-8), who has now dropped five of the last eight series matchups with the Black & Gold, fell to 6-6 at home this season with the setback as well.

Akia Pruitt registered 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting for the Braves who shot 52 percent from the field in the contest, including a 14-for-24 (.583) success rate in the second half. Lumberton native David Strother turned in 12 points and five assists, while Tyrell Kirk tallied a dozen points on 4-of-5 field goal shooting.

Senior Brandon Watts chipped in 11 points to pass former teammate Quamain Rose (2012-17) for sixth place on UNCP's all-time scoring list. Watts has already amassed 1,583 points in his 3-plus years in the Black & Gold, and needs just 40 more points this season to move into the top 5.

Chapin Rierson turned in 14 points to lead Georgia College who was held under 60 points for just the fourth time this season. Justin Cave scored 13 points for the hosts as well.

A 3-pointer from Rierson with 16:21 left to play brought the Bobcats to within seven points, 38-31, but a layup from Murray-Boyles on the ensuing possession sparked the Braves on a 20-5 run over the next six minutes that all but put the game out of reach. Georgia College managed to pull to within a dozen points on a 3-pointer by Andrew Prestwood at the 7:22 mark, but the Braves answered with five-straight points to assert their will.

UNCP led 18-5 at the midway point of the opening half, but Georgia College managed to trim its deficit down to a more manageable five points, 21-16, just less than five minutes later. A trio of perimeter shots, including an NBA-range 3-pointer from Strother with 3:28 left before intermission, would eventually give the Black & Gold a 32-24 lead heading into the locker rooms.

The Braves will close out a short two-game road trip on Wednesday when they head to northeast Georgia to take on Augusta (13-8, 10-5) in the back half of a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader inside Christenberry Fieldhouse.
