Wrestling Mows Down Coker In ECAC Action

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke wrestling team won eight of the 10 individual matchups on the night, most in dominating fashion, as the Braves kept pace in the race for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship with a 33-12 rout of visiting Coker on Tuesday evening.

It was the fourth win in the last five dual meets for the Braves (10-10, 3-1 ECAC) who host ECAC-leading Newberry on Friday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. Coker (5-10, 1-4), who remained winless in five series matchups with the Black & Gold, has now dropped seven-straight dual meets this season.

The Braves led 18-0 after the first four dual meets of the night before Coker finally got on the board thanks to Bret Shurina's decision at 157 pounds. UNCP slammed its foot on the gas pedal again after that and recorded three-straight victories to eventually go out in front 33-3 on the team scoreboard after Faris Teia's first-period pin at 184 pounds.

UNCP will close out the home portion of its 2017-18 schedule on Friday when they welcome the ECAC-leading and 14th-ranked Wolves (10-5, 3-0) to Pembroke for a 7 p.m. Senior Night matchup. Admission to all 2017-18 UNCP home dual meets is free.
