Volleyball Battles Back To Bounce Mount Olive

PEMBROKE – Visiting Mount Olive hit nearly .250 at the net on the way to taking a convincing victory in the opening set, but the UNC Pembroke volleyball team owned the night the rest of the way out as the Braves tacked up a 3-1 win over the Trojans to complete a perfect Tuesday on Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

It was the third win in the last four outings for the Braves (11-13) who have now registered their most wins since the 2014 season. The Trojans (3-10), who tallied a 3-1 win over UNCP earlier this season on their home court, have now dropped six of their last seven contests.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 17-25 Mount Olive hit .242 at the net and raked in nine of the first 11 points of the net to key an opening set victory. The Trojans led by as many as eight points, 16-8, after a kill from Starr Sergent, but the Black & Gold eventually pulled to within five points, 19-14, thanks to three consecutive hitting errors by the Trojans. That would be the closest the hosts would get, however, before the visitors closed it out with four of the set's final five points.
SET 2 I 25-21 The Braves scored four consecutive points to take a 14-9 advantage in the second set, but the Trojans eventually scored four-straight points to make it a one-point affair, 18-17, after Ania Keene's kill. The Braves would own the latter part of the set, however, and closed it out with four of the final six points.
SET 3 I 25-18 The squads split the first 24 points of the third set before a big kill from Kaila Crowder sparked the hosts on a momentum-swinging 13-3 run that would give the Braves the lead for good. Mount Olive fought off three-straight set points by UNCP thanks to a ball handling error and a pair of service aces, but Brianna Warren's kill would ice the outcome.
SET 4 I 25-20 It was déjà vu all over again in the fourth and final set of the night as the teams split the first 24 points before UNCP answered with a key run. A kill from Raven Oates gave UNCP the lead for good and sparked the hosts on a 10-4 run that would eventually give them a 22-16 lead following a kill from Ashley Caesar. The Trojans scored four-straight points to climb back into it, but the Braves wrapped up the match with three kills, including a pair from Kaila Crowder.
