Flagler Takes Straight-Sets Victory Over Volleyball

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Flagler shook off eight service errors and hit nearly .350 at the net as the Saints pushed their win streak out to five matches with a 3-0 victory over the UNC Pembroke volleyball team on Friday evening in northeast Florida.

The result snapped a two-match win streak for the Braves (11-14, 0-4 PBC) who fell to 5-10 away from Pembroke this season as well. The Saints (13-6, 3-2) improved to 7-4 in Flagler Gymnasium with Friday's victory, and have now won consecutive home matches for the first time since mid-September.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 17-25 Flagler hit .481 in the opening set of the evening and took advantage of seven hitting errors by the Braves to grab the early advantage in the match. UNCP rallied back from an early deficit and pulled to within a point, 12-11, after an attack error by the hosts, but the Saints eventually used a 7-2 run to take a commanding 23-16 lead, and then closed out the set with kills from Kennedy Muff and Rebeka Machovec.
SET 2 I 20-25 The Saints scored five of the first six points in set two, including three via service aces, but it was the Braves who forged a one-point lead, 17-16, late in the set on a service ace from Brianna Warren. Flagler would rebound, however, by tacking up eight of the next 10 points to put itself into a set-point situation that was finished out moments later on a kill from Logan Garcia.
SET 3 I 21-25 Flagler boasted a .316 hitting percentage in what would turn out to be the final set of the night, but eight attack errors by the Black & Gold certainly aided the cause by the hosts as well. The squads split the first 14 points of the set before the Saints reeled off four-straight points to distance themselves for good. UNCP pulled to within three points, 15-12, on a kill from April Tankersley, but the Saints responded with a 7-1 run.
