Volleyball Falls To Augusta In Straight Sets

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Nicolette Ramos posted a match-best 21 kills to lead an impressive offensive attack for Augusta, and the Jaguars used an opening-set rally to fuel a 3-0 victory over the UNC Pembroke volleyball team on Friday evening inside Christenberry Fieldhouse.
 
The setback marked the third-straight road loss for the Braves (11-15, 0-5 PBC) who are in the midst of a six-match road trip. It was the second-straight win for Augusta (18-6, 3-2) who stayed perfect in eight home matches this season.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 23-25 The Braves led 17-12 following a kill from Elly Hicks, but Augusta scored nine of the next 10 points to key the opening-set victory. UNCP put together a mild 4-1 run to even things up at 22 points apiece, but the Jaguars scored three of the final four points of the set to close it out.
SET 2 I 16-25 UNCP committed just three attack errors in the second set, but the Jaguars hit .410 at the net to take control of the night. Block assists from both Brianna Warren and Raven Oates gave the Braves an early 3-2 edge, but Augusta tacked up the next six points to take a lead it would not relinquish. UNCP pulled to within four points, 19-15, thanks to a kill from Raven Oates, but the Jaguars strung together five-straight points to grab a 24-15 advantage, and put the set on ice with a kill from Nicolette Ramos.
SET 3 I 14-25 Augusta hit a modest .263 in what would turn out to be the final set of the night, but benefitted from eight attack errors by the Black & Gold to eventually clinch the match. UNCP closed to within two points, 13-11, on Shannon Skryd's kill, but the Jaguars eventually used seven-straight points to go out in front by double digits, 23-13. The Braves benefitted from a service error that broke up the run, but two-straight attack errors by the visitors closed out the night.
