Game Recap: Soccer |

Soccer Scores Late, Beats Georgia Southwestern

PEMBROKE – A 72nd-minute goal from Maya Grimes proved to be the game's only goal as the UNC Pembroke soccer team rallied behind its defense again to post a 1-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern on Saturday afternoon at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.

The victory kept Braves (11-3-0, 6-2-0 PBC) perfect in the 14-game-old series with the Hurricanes – a stretch that includes 12 shutouts as well. The result kept Georgia Southwestern (3-11-1, 0-8-0 PBC) searching for its first PBC road victory since 2010.

SCORING SUMMARY
72' Alexis Pittman played a ball to Maya Grimes who was able to head the ball past Georgia Southwestern goalkeeper Hannah Morrone.

TOP BRAVES
+ Maya Grimes scored her first goal of the 2019 season. It was the third career goal for Grimes, but her first since netting one in a 3-0 victory over Francis Marion last season.
+ Alexis Pittman's second half assist marked the eighth time this season that the junior has scored at least one point in an outing. She has now tallied at least one point in three-straight games.
+ Gina Ryan recorded two saves on the afternoon on the way to recording her 33rd career clean sheet. She needs just one more shutout to move into a tie for 25th place on the NCAA's all-time list.
