Soccer Back On Track, Picks Up Win On Senior Day

PEMBROKE – Alexis Pittman's scored a 23rd-minute goal to help support a phenomenal day from goalkeeper Gina Ryan and the UNC Pembroke soccer team picked up a key victory over visiting Georgia College with a 1-0 win over the Bobcats on Saturday afternoon at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.

It was the third-straight home shutout for the Braves (12-4-0, 7-3-0 PBC) who improved to 6-1-0 in Pembroke this season with Saturday's blanking. The setback marked the fourth-straight loss for the Bobcats (4-9-2, 3-5-1 PBC) who have not won in Pembroke since the 2015 regular season.


 
SCORING SUMMARY
23' Alexis Pittman took advantage of a defensive miscue and fired a shot past Georgia College netminder Kate Richardson.
 
TOP BRAVES
+ Alexis Pittman netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season, as well as her second game-winning score of the 2019 campaign.
+ Rilee Seering logged team-leading and career-best nine shots on the afternoon, including four shots on goal.
+ Gina Ryan tallied her 34th career clean sheet and is now tied for 25th on the NCAA's all-time list. Ryan's 10 saves on Saturday marked the fifth double-digit saves outing of her career.
 
NOTABLES
+ UNCP improved to 6-1-0 this season in Pembroke, and has now registered four shutout victories at Lumbee River EMC Stadium in 2019. UNCP has eight shutouts on the season.
+ The Braves improved to 10-6-3 all-time against Georgia College, including a 6-3-1 mark against the Bobcats in Pembroke.
+ Georgia College outshot the Braves, 19-13, on Saturday, including a 10-6 advantage in the shots on goal column.
+ Saturday's outing marked the final regular season home game for UNCP's senior class – Leticia Cantera, Gina Ryan, Katy Ryan, Kristina Stevenson and Rachel Witkin.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Braves will step out of Peach Belt Conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on Converse (2-14). Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Hayden Abney Fulp Field.
