Volleyball Finishes Off Season Sweep Of Georgia College

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team registered double-digit blocks for the 10th time this season to hold visiting Georgia College to a paltry .066 hitting percentage, and the Braves registered their first straight-sets sweep of a Peach Belt Conference opponent since 2013 with a 3-0 win over the Bobcats on Friday evening.

The result, coupled with a 5-set victory over the Bobcats in Georgia earlier this season, helped the Braves (14-18, 2-8 PBC) finish off a season sweep of a league opponent for the first time since besting Francis Marion twice in 2015. It was also the first home victory for UNCP over a league foe since Nov. 11, 2015. Friday's outcome marked the third-straight loss for Georgia College (7-17, 1-8).

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-18 UNCP benefited from 11 hitting errors by Georgia College in the opening set of the night and never trailed on the way to a 25-18 triumph. An early kill from Elly Hicks signaled a 10-3 run for the hosts that swung all of the momentum over to their side. UNCP led by as many as nine points on two occasions, and closed it out on block assists from Raven Oates and Ashley Caesar.
SET 2 I 25-23 The Braves strung together five consecutive points to forge a 13-8 lead in the second set, but Georgia College came storming back and eventually took a 20-19 lead on an attack error by the Braves. UNCP raked in three-straight points to go ahead 23-21, but the Bobcats answered with a solo block and a service ace to knot things back up. The Braves would close it out, however, on consecutive kills from April Tankersley and Ashley Caesar.
SET 3 I 25-21 Four of the first five points in the third set swung UNCP's way, and the Braves never looked back after that on the way to clinching the night with a 25-21 win in set three. Georgia College got to within a point of the hosts on a pair of occasions, but the Braves used a three-point swing to forge a 20-16 lead and pull away for good. A kill from Elly Hicks, followed by block assists from Raven Oates and Brianna Warren, would cap the scoring on the night.
