Augusta Downs Volleyball In Straight Sets

PEMBROKE – Visiting Augusta matched a season-high with 12 blocks and limited the UNC Pembroke volleyball team to just a .107 hitting percentage on the way to a straight-sets victory over the Braves on Saturday afternoon at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
 
It was the third loss in the last four outings for the Braves (14-19, 2-9 PBC) who fell to 7-6 at home this season with the result as well. Augusta (22-8, 6-4) won for the fourth time in the last five contests, while also finishing off a season sweep of the Black & Gold.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 22-25 The Jaguars registered a .350 hitting percentage in a seesaw battle that was not decided until late. The squads split the first 42 points of the set, but Augusta used back-to-back kills from Nicolette Campos to forge a 23-21 advantage and take the lead for good.
SET 2 I 18-25 The Braves used consecutive kills from April Tankersley and Shannon Skryd to take a 13-9 edge in the second set, but the Jaguars countered with nine-straight points to turn the tables. UNCP stopped its scoring drought on another kill from Skryd, but Augusta responded again, this time with a 6-1 run to go out in front 24-15.
SET 3 I 21-25 Augusta kept its hitting errors at a minimum in what would turn out to be the final set of the match, and used a 10-1 run midway through the set to clinch the final outcome. The Braves held a 9-4 advantage after a kill from Shannon Skryd, but the Jaguars put together a 10-1 run to eventually forge a 14-10 advantage. The Black & Gold pulled to within a point, 16-15, following a kill by Ashley Caesar, but the Jaguars responded with five-straight points to pull away for good.
