Volleyball Eases Past St. Andrews In Straight Sets

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit .243 at the net and benefited from 11 service aces – its most in more than two years – to cruise to a straight-sets victory over St. Andrews on Saturday at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
 
The result notched the eighth home victory of the season for the Braves (15-19) and guaranteed the Black & Gold its first winning record in Pembroke since the 2013 campaign. It was the eighth loss in the last nine outings for the Knights (11-21) who fell to 3-7 all-time in the series with UNCP.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-13 The Braves committed just two hitting errors in the opening set, and put together an 11-1 run midway through to rake in all of the momentum. The Knights used an attack error by the hosts to trim their deficit back to single digits, 21-12, but UNCP collected four of the last five points to close out the set. 
SET 2 I 25-14 The squads halved the first 14 points of the second set only to set up an 11-1 run by the Braves that all but sealed the outcome. The Braves tacked up five consecutive points to grab a 24-10 lead, but St. Andrews fought off four-straight set points before succumbing to a kill from Ashley Caesar.
SET 3 I 25-20 St. Andrews tacked up four of the first five points of the third and final set and appeared to have righted the ship, but UNCP responded with five-straight points to go ahead. The Knights battled back from a 17-13 deficit with four consecutive points, but the hosts eventually closed out the match by tacking up seven of the day's final nine points.
