Sammy Peticos turned in four bonus-point victories on the way to championship honors in the 157-pound tournament, while fellow sophomore
Marcus Bell logged a fifth place showing in the heavyweight bracket, to highlight action for the 10
th-ranked UNC Pembroke wrestling team on Saturday at the Newberry Open.
Peticos tallied two wins by pin fall, and two others by major decision, on the way to cruising through the 141-pound bracket. The Ellenboro product capped his day with a 12-4 major decision over Central Florida's Matthew Seymour in the title bout.
Bell rebounded from a loss to North Carolina's Andrew Gunning in his opening matchup of the day with two wins in the consolation bracket. He won his fifth place match with Ahman Smalls via medical forfeit.
The Braves (6-5) will close out the regular season portion of their 2018-19 schedule on Wednesday when they travel to Greensboro College (2-10) for a dual meet with the Pride inside Reynolds Family Gym. Wrestling action is scheduled to get underway at 6:30 p.m.
