Smith, Baseball Capture Series At USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke baseball team pounded out 14 hits and scored 15 times behind a solid outing from southpaw Landen Smith, and the Braves cruised to a series-clinching 15-3 victory over USC Aiken on Sunday at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
 
The victory gave the Braves (17-16, 7-11 PBC) their first Peach Belt Conference road series victory of the season, while also giving the Black & Gold its fourth win in the last six matchups with their league rival. The Pacers (18-15, 11-8) have now dropped six of their last eight outings.

SCORING INNINGS
TOP 1 Trevor Clemons drew a walk to lead off the game and then moved himself into position via a stolen base to set the table for Ethan Baucom whose RBI single gave the visitors a lead they would not relinquish. Elijah Helton's two-out RBI single made it a 2-0 affair.
TOP 3 Trevor Clemons hit a one-out double and River Ryan stretched the lead out to 3-0 on a RBI single with the next at-bat.
TOP 5 UNCP loaded the bases with its first four at-bats of the frame and then put together a two-out rally by scoring runs in three consecutive at-bats. Jarratt Mobley's two-run double capped off the inning for the Black & Gold.. 
BOT 5 Alex Mills singled to lead off the home half of the frame and made his way around the base paths before scoring on a Cary Holloway's RBI groundout. Brady O'Neil hit a solo homer to push across USC Aiken's second run of the inning.
TOP 6 Kevon Perkins and Trevor Clemons each singled to lead off the sixth, and Ethan Baucom's RBI single gave UNCP an 8-2 lead. A costly passed ball, as well as a sacrifice fly from Connor Grainger, pushed the advantage out to eight runs, 10-2.
BOT 6 Luke Leisenring belted a leadoff double to the gap in right field and eventually came around to score on a RBI single by Alex Mills.
TOP 7 Zach Ghelfi tripled to lead off the seventh, and then scored on a RBI single to centerfield off the bat of Trevor Clemons.
TOP 8 Elijah Helton hit a solo homer with one out, and Kevon Perkins belted a 2-run double down the left field line to give the Braves a 14-3 lead.
TOP 9 River Ryan doubled to lead off the final frame, and then advanced to third on another ill-timed passed ball by the Pacers. Ethan Baucom's sacrifice fly moments later capped the scoring for both teams.

The Braves will make a quick stop at home on Tuesday to finish off their home-and-home series with Coker (12-20-1). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Taco Tuesday at Sammy Cox Field.
